For 2019, the third annual Makin Waves hunger benefit is being expanded into a multi-venue event in Asbury Park from November 22 through 24, and has been re-branded as the TallieFest.
What’s a tallie? It’s the Gaelic word for “princess,” and the name of the original Jersey girl: Tallie is the long-overlooked sweetheart of Asbury Park wall icon Tillie — but there will no more “back streets” for her!
Produced by Brittney On Fire and Makin Waves, TallieFest will showcase 22 female and female-fronted musical acts playing everything from pop-funk to hard rock to raise funds for Asbury Park-based charity Food For Thought.
On Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23, the Langosta Lounge and Asbury Park Yacht Club will host concerts from 9:30PM to midnight. Admission is free, with net proceeds donated to Food for Thought, which will also benefit from a 50/50 raffle; a silent auction for color prints of co-sponsor Eric Schiabor’s Tallie poster; and a canned food drive.
Additional shows will take place from 12 noon to 5PM at The Saint club on Saturday Nov. 23 and Sunday Nov. 24, benefiting the Asbury Park Women’s Convention.
Since its inception in 1988, Makin Waves has helped raise or donated $146,000 to charities including the Rex Foundation, Elijah’s Promise, and Planned Parenthood.
