CentraState lauded for its stroke program

CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, announces that it has been placed on the Women’s Choice Award list for America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care in the United States.
This distinction, the first of its kind in the country, is based on research from publicly available date (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and patient recommendation and satisfaction scores (HCAHPS), which are then weighted based on a national survey of women’s priorities when selecting health care. More than 1,120 stroke care facilities were included in the analysis.
The Women’s Choice Award assists consumers in making informed purchases by identifying brands that are most recommended and trusted by women. Those that deliver a customer experience worthy of recommendation are selected to win a Women’s Choice Award.
“Making the list of 50 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care means that women can be assured that the compassionate, quality stroke care they receive at CentraState is among the best in the nation,” says Laurie Gambardella, M.S.N., R.N., administrative director for Emergency Services at CentraState. “We have a multidisciplinary stroke team in place waiting to expedite care of stroke patients immediately upon their arrival to the emergency department. We understand that urgent medical care is critical and can mean the difference between life and death, and our goal is to make sure patients don’t suffer the harmful effects from stroke.” Each year, more than 795,000 people in the United States have a stroke. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking are among the common risk factors for stroke.
CentraState strongly encourages everyone, from children to seniors, to subscribe to a healthy lifestyle by eating right, staying active, sleeping well and finding ways to offset stress. Doing so can absolutely help to extend your life and minimize many life-threatening medical conditions, including stroke.
CentraState Medical Center’s Primary Stroke Center includes an on-site, 24/7 specialty-trained “Stroke Alert” response team to assess patients in the Emergency Department and initiate an immediate treatment protocol. The center has earned licensed certification from The Joint Commission and New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services and the American HeartAssociation/American StrokeAssociation’s Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award for three consecutive years. This award recognizes CentraState’s ongoing commitment and success in implementing the highest quality care for stroke patients, according to evidence based guidelines.
