Eating disorders involve serious disturbances in eating behaviors, such as extreme and unhealthy reduction of food intake or severe overeating, as well as feelings of extreme concern about body shape or weight.

Eating disorders do not discriminate between ages, genders, socioeconomic statuses, sexual orientations, body shape and size, races or ethnicities. While 60% of the contributing factors stem from a genetic component, genes alone do not predict who will develop an eating disorder.

Eating Disorders are complex biological/psychological/social illnesses that have serious emotional and physical consequences. They include:

Anorexia Nervosa: excessive fear of weight gain
Bulimia Nervosa: binge eating and purging
Binge Eating Disorder (BED): recurrent episodes of overeating
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID): lack of interest in eating or food
Pica: eating non-food substances (corn starch, hair, etc.)
