Riverdale Police Hold “No Shave November” Fundraiser; Eyeglasses for Hudson County Seniors

As part of No Shave November, originally a way to raise money for cancer research, Riverdale Police Department members will grow out their facial hair to raise money for the daughters of Rob Murray, who died in a crash on Route 23, said Lt. James MacIntosh.

The quest to grow out beards and whiskers is special for Murray’s family, whose scraggly, unkempt beard and penchant for the outdoor life, earned him the nickname of “Mountain Man,” according to Abigaile Hunt, his sister-in-law.

Each officer will pay $50 to participate in the charity event and people can sponsor specific officers as they go along their journey. On top of the money the officers pay and sponsors can pledge, Chief Kevin Smith will be doling out $5 fines for “unruly” beards.

Anyone interested in donating to make checks out to Riverdale PBA Local 335, with the notes indicating “No Shave.” Checks can be dropped off at police headquarters or mailed to 91 Newark-Pompton Turnpike, Riverdale, NJ 07457.
