Dr. Robert A. Kayal, MD is the regional pioneer of the partial knee and the patellofemoral knee replacement technology, and has been performing these procedures for years. In fact, Kayal has performed more of these surgeries than any other orthopaedic surgeon in the region. In addition to introducing this technology to the medical community years ago, he also introduced the concept of “outpatient joint replacement surgery” to the local community and continues to perform outpatient unicompartmental and patellofemoral knee replacements on a routine basis.
Dr. Kayal possesses the distinction of performing the first-ever minimally invasive partial knee replacement and patellofemoral knee joint replacement at The Valley Hospital and at Patient Care Associates, LLC, and performs this procedure at Hackensack University Medical Center, as well. These surgical procedures incorporate only a 3- to 4-inch incision, as opposed to the typical 8- to 12-inch incision often required for total knee replacement surgery.
As a result, these patients are discharged the same day of surgery, endure no cutting of tendons or muscle, recuperate much faster and experience much less pain than those undergoing traditional knee replacement surgeries. Furthermore, Dr. Kayal has brought cartilage transplantation to NY and NJ, performing operations that delay or even preclude the need for joint replacement surgery. Dr. Kayal also delivers breakthrough hip arthroscopy and cutting-edge MLS laser therapy as well as platelet rich plasma injection therapy to area patients.
