What started as a couple of local bands and a small picnic in Bucks Mill Park in Colts Neck in 2008 has evolved into a large-scale rock festival that is now in its 12th year and taking place at Monmouth Park racetrack for the second year in a row.
Welcome to Rockfest at the Track: Woodstock Edition, a benefit for HABcore, which provides permanent housing and individualized support and health services to homeless families, veterans, and individuals with special needs.
The festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, from noon to 11 p.m., with gates opening at 10 a.m. at Monmouth Park, 175 Oceanport Ave., Oceanport.
“For us to be associated with an event like this, we know how big it can be and sometimes it’s not all about raising as much money as you possibly can, it’s all about raising awareness,” says Marta Quinn of HabCore. “Musicians have absolutely wrapped their arms around this, they understand it’s their community too.
“What we do is we provide permanent housing for homeless veterans, families with children and individuals with special needs all throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties. So it touches everybody and they understand that. So really to have this community of talented artists open their doors to us, nothing we wouldn’t do!”
Right now, Habcore has more than 300 people that have been homeless that they know of and they have over 100 children under 17 that they have to provide housing and services for. “So it’s really amazing that we can do this and the more people we know, the more that we can help,” she said.
At Rockfest, some of New Jersey’s best original and cover will be playing the music of the Woodstock era as well as their own. There will be also be a craft beer garden and food vendors. Click here or on the picture for more information.
