Local K-12 Jersey Shore teachers recently participated in full-day workshops called Project WET (Water Education for Teachers).

Teachers within the Barnegat Bay Watershed area including, Toms River, Manalapan and Brick, learned how to protect and restore our vital water sources as well as how to help decrease climate change.

The outdoor workshops were held at Save Barnegat Bay’s EcoCenter in Toms River, which has native species and home to the Long Swamp Creek estuary. This estuary feeds the Barnegat Bay with fresh water. The workshops focused on the protection of the Barnegat Bay and surrounding areas within the watershed.

The program was organized by Save Barnegat Bay’s Graceanne Taylor and was held in conjunction with The Watershed Institute, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Veolia.

Senior Educator from The Watershed Institute Pat Heaney guided a hands-on, inquiry-based workshop activities while endorsing best science practices, providing a deeper understanding of the environment.
