Effective Monday May 4, 2020, Jersey City will now provide free coronavirus testing for all residents whether they have symptoms or not, Mayor Steve Fulop has announced.
“We believe expanding our testing is important to getting our local economy back,” Fulop said. “We will also be putting our most vulnerable communities and front-line workers on regular testing rotations to both keep them safe and also to identify potential larger clusters earlier.”
Jersey City opened two testing centers on March 27 — a drive-thru site at 575 Route 440 and a walk-up site at the Fire Department Headquarters on Marin Boulevard.
The city closed a testing site in the downtown area and opened one Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center at 140 Martin Luther King Drive.
Appointments are still required. To make an appointment at either testing site, call 201-547-5535 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., seven days a week.
Hoboken’s Riverside Medical Group is set to offer COVID-19 testing to all Hoboken residents—whether or not they are currently exhibiting symptoms.
“As has been stated by medical professionals across the country, an increase in testing is critical to our region in order to re-open the local economy. This is especially important as many individuals may have COVID-19 but are unaware because they do not exhibit any symptoms,” said Hoboken mayor Ravi Bhalla.
“To that end, I’m extremely pleased to share that Riverside Medical will now open up rapid, 15-minute testing to all Hoboken residents and frontline workers in Hoboken, with or without symptoms of COVID-19. The Riverside facility is now one of the first testing facilities in New Jersey to offer tests to individuals without symptoms.”
Priority will be given to first responders and employees of all essential businesses, those that have frequent contact with the public, and those with symptoms.
Hoboken residents and essential workers in Hoboken that want to be tested should continue to call the Hoboken City Hall Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) hotline at 201-420-5621 to schedule an appointment.
