Rebecca and Isabella Dewey have a long standing relationship with Children’s Specialized Hospital (CSH). As part of their upcoming B’not Mitzvah, they have decided to give back to CSH, and they need your help to reach their goal!
Twelve years ago, their mother Sherri Dewey began noticing lapses in Rebecca’s development when the twins reached four months old: facial paralysis, excessive drooling, one eye being wider than the other, and no use of her right hand. Doctors diagnosed Rebecca with a right hemiplegia caused by a stroke that occurred before birth.
At six months of age, Rebecca began taking physical and occupational therapy at CHS three to four times a week. Isabella spent a lot of her time at the hospital as well, as she also participated in the therapy sessions. The Dewey feels it made a huge difference in the development of both the girls.
By participating in the Rebecca’s therapy sessions, Isabella was kept occupied and played a role in her sister’s progress, while Rebecca was able to watch her sister’s examples, which made her work even harder!
Today, both sisters are a force to be reckoned with! Rebecca enjoys dancing, arts and crafts, and drawing. She is in all general education classes at her school and gets mostly A’s in all of her subjects. She would like to be a teacher or a veterinarian when she grows up. Isabella enjoys arts and crafts, watching TV, horseback riding, and hanging out with friends and family. She, too, has aspirations of working in a medical field.
