Scotch Plains Public Library is now partnering with Support Services for Cancer Patients through Atlantic Health at Overlook Medical Center to provide comfort and warmth for those who are going through chemotherapy. To that end, we are starting a hand-knitted or crocheted hat collection program to benefit cancer patients receiving treatment at Overlook Medical Center.

These handmade sewn or needle craft items are provided free to patients during their chemotherapy sessions. The hats should be crafted for adults of all genders ages 21 years and up and be made with soft, easy-care yarn, such as acrylic or acrylic-wool blends. We can provide patterns for the hats or you can use your own. There is no time limit or deadline for the completed hats, so you can work at your own pace.

The Scotch Plains Public Library has a stash of yarn and tools if you are in need of supplies, or bring your own and craft with others in a supportive environment. The finished items will be individually bagged and brought to the cancer center with a card informing the recipient that it was crafted by an individual from the Scotch Plains Library community.
