There is now definitely no denying that charitable passions run through the blood of New Jersey rock gods Bon Jovi.

Rocco Bongiovi, son of singer Jon Bon Jovi’s brother and manager Matt Bongiovi, has joined his classmates as a American Heart Association Ambassador. But it turns out that they’ll have to do a bit more than just persuade people to open their wallets.

The AHA’s Voices For Healthy Kids is about establishing lifelong heart healthy habits, and it’s never too soon for them to start. Rocco’s school is also being challenged with national events sponsored by the American Heart Association and the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE):

Life’s Simple Seven™ for Kids: Making small choices every day will help keep your heart healthy. Life’s Simple 7 for kids was developed to help you understand how your lifestyle affects your heart so that you can make those heart-healthy choices. It may seem difficult to choose better options when so many things seem easier or just more fun. You just need to take small steps in a healthy direction and that begins by knowing the healthy choices!

  1. Avoid smoking and using tobacco products.
  2. Be physically active every day.
  3. Eat a heart-healthy diet.
  4. Keep a healthy weight.
  5. Keep your blood pressure healthy.
  6. Keep your total cholesterol healthy.
  7. Keep your blood sugar healthy.

NFL 60 Play Challenge: The Challenge is a four-week program that inspires kids to get the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity a day in school and at home. It’s also an endless runner game brought to you by the NFL and the AHA which can be downloaded for either either iPhone or Android.

Jump Rope For Heart and Hoops For Heart Events: conducted in school by physical education instructors, coaches or teachers, and can be scheduled whenever it’s most convenient. Participants ask friends and family for donations.
