Morrisville PA mayor Brud Charles Anderson, 50, has been charged with accidents involving death or personal injury, accidents involving damage to a vehicle in the April 13 accident, which occurred in the borough, according to court records.
The charges follow an investigation by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, which last month confirmed it was looking into a hit-and-run accident involving Anderson, but declined to release any details.
Morrisville police responded to the accident at North Delmorr and East Trenton avenues where a New Jersey woman claimed she was traveling south on Delmorr approaching the intersection when a black Sport-Trac attempted to turn left onto East Trenton Avenue from the northbound lane of Delmoor, according to charging documents.
The right front of her 2022 Chevrolet Equinox struck the front of the Sport-Trac and both vehicles came to a stop in the middle of the intersection, police said. The Sport-Trac driver then allegedly put the vehicle in reverse and sped off westbound on East Trenton Avenue.
The accident was captured on video cameras from the Delaware River Bridge Commission. Eight days after the accident, Morrisville police received information about the license plate on the Sport-Trac, which showed the vehicle was registered to Anderson, the affidavit said.
Morrisville police referred the case for investigation to the county citing a conflict of interest: Anderson oversees the borough’s police department.
The Equinox driver reportedly claimed she was driving slowly with traffic and had a green light, when the Sport-Trac turned in front of her. The crash deployed her airbags, and she complained of minor injuries as a result of the seat belt, police said.
When detectives interviewed Anderson, he allegedly admitted he was turning left when the crash happened, he fled the crash scene, and that he did not call police or report the accident, the affidavit said. He allegedly claimed had just left his home on Hillside Avenue and was in a hurry to return.
While the accident happened in April, two Morrisville council members reached last month claimed they knew nothing about the accident investigation. Anderson, who was elected mayor in 2021, did not immediately respond media requests for seeking comment.
