Everyone should get screened for an eating disorder. These illnesses often hide in plain sight, so whether you have serious concerns or just an inkling about yourself or a loved one, take the screening. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental disorder but recovery is absolutely possible and early intervention greatly improves the chances of success. It’s no exaggeration when we say three minutes can save a life.

Spearheaded by the National Eating Disorders Association, the goal of National Eating Disorders Awareness (#NEDAwareness) Week is to shine the spotlight on eating disorders and put life-saving resources into the hands of those in need. This year’s theme is It’s Time to Talk About It and we’re encouraging everyone to get screened.

It’s time we take eating disorders seriously as public health concerns. It’s time we bust the myths and get the facts. It’s time to celebrate recovery and the heroes who make it possible. It’s time to take action and fight for change. It’s time to shatter the stigma and increase access to care. It’s Time to Talk About It!

NEDA is so honored to work with singer Kesha to raise awareness about eating disorders and help get everyone screened.

Says Kesha, “I had an eating disorder that threatened my life, and I was very afraid to confront it. I got sicker and the whole world kept telling me how much better I looked, and that’s why I realized that I wanted to be a part of the solution.”

“I want to help NEDA promote the idea that we should all be proud of who we are exactly how we are and if you need help or know someone who does, NEDA is here to help.”
