E.N.A. Meat Packing Inc., situated in Paterson, New Jersey, has initiated a recall involving nearly 60,000 pounds of frozen, uncooked halal beef tripe, beef feet, and lamb tripe products.
This recall is due to these items being produced without undergoing federal inspection, as revealed by surveillance operations by Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in an announcement last week.
The federal agency said the frozen, raw beef tripe, beef feet, and lamb tripe items were manufactured between January 2023 and August 2023.
The recall encompasses the following products, irrespective of the packed-on date:
About 30-lb. cardboard boxes containing E.N.A. MEAT PACKING CORP. HALAL BEEF TRIPE (green tripe)
About 25-lb. cardboard boxes containing E.N.A. MEAT PACKING CORP. HALAL BEEF FEET
About 30-lb. cardboard boxes containing E.N.A. MEAT PACKING CORP. HALAL LAMB TRIPE
According to FSIS officials, these products, marked with establishment number “#17778M” within the USDA mark of inspection, were distributed to retailers and distributors in New Jersey and New York.
The issue came to light during FSIS surveillance operations. Officials determined that the company had produced the beef and lamb items without obtaining the required federal inspection.
Consumers might come across the cardboard boxes or find the product removed from the boxes and placed in the meat section of stores.FSIS is concerned that some of these products could be in consumers’ freezers or refrigerators.
Although there haven’t been confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming these products, individuals worried about possible illness or injury should get in touch with a healthcare provider.
Consumers who have purchased these products are strongly advised either discard the meat or return it to the place of purchase.
