Head Lice Awareness: National Pediculosis Association · Benefits of Stainless Steel Combing · LiceBeGone.net · LiceMeister Comb
The The National Pediculosis Association (NPA), founded in 1983, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to protecting children, their families and their environment from the misuse and abuse of prescription and over-the-counter pesticide treatments of head lice and of scabies.
The NPA has submitted a commentary to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding a number of concerns about the information posted on their Web site regarding pediculosis (the medical term for an infestation of head lice).
Back To School 2020 is fraught with challenges for parents and school leaders trying to figure out whether, let alone how, children and staff can return to school safely amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The heightened attention to this communicable virus has reminded us of the importance of having comprehensive management protocols in place, especially in anticipation of public health issues that affect children.
Like hand washing, combing is a basic hygiene measure. Combing provides a reliable approach for screening, early detection, accurate identification, treatment and prevention of pediculosis. Combing accomplishes what chemicals cannot; it enables families to be self-reliant, proactive, and preventive.
The NPA has compiled the first comprehensive list of the benefits of combing; and recommends the use of the LiceMeister, stainless stell comb, which can be purchased here.
Even with the COVID-19 pandemic, parents still need to be prepared to control head lice, too often viewed as a nuisance rather than respected as the infectious disease that it is.
A proactive mentality builds community trust that parents will take actions to protect children from being unnecessarily vulnerable. Preparedness empowers parents to send their children to school ready to learn and play, and most importantly, free of any communicable diseases.
