Recalls of Products by Procter & Gamble Hair Care, Coca-Cola

Procter & Gamble issued a voluntary recall of more than 30 aerosol spray haircare products, including dry shampoo and dry hair conditioner due to detected levels of benzene, a known cancer-causing chemical.

The affected items include products such as Pantene, Herbal Essences, Aussie, Hair Food, and Old Spice, according to the recall notice.

This is the second time Procter & Gamble has had to issue a recall within a month. Last month, the company recalled some Secret and Old Spice deodorants after benzene was detected in those products.

Procter & Gamble said the affected products will likely not expose people to high enough levels of benzene to cause health problems but is moving forward with the recall out of “an abundance of caution. No reports of “adverse” reactions to the products have been reported yet.

“Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin and it can result in cancers, including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow and blood disorders which can be life-threatening,” the recall notice said.

Retailers have been told to discard the recalled products from store shelves and Procter & Gamble wants consumers who purchased the recalled products to throw them out.

Full refunds are being offered for the recalled products. To claim the refund, customers must call 1-888-674-3631.

If you have a Coca-Cola, Minute Maid, or Sprite product in your fridge, you might want to double-check their batch codes: the products were recalled due to the presence of foreign metal objects.

The Coca-Cola Company recalled three Minute Maid products that were distributed in multiple states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maine, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The most recent recall applies to Minute Maid Berry Punch, Fruit Punch, and Strawberry Lemonade in 59-ounce cartons.

The following Minute Maid products with their batch codes are subject to recall:

Berry Punch – Date codes Jan0422 NP and Jan0522 NP, Batch 0010323455 and 0010259344 (recall F-0276-2022)
Strawberry Lemonade – Date code: Jan0322 NP, Batch: 0010259346 (recall F-0277-2022)
Fruit Punch – Date Code: JAN0522 NP Batch: 0010323454 (recall F-0278-2022)

Customers are being advised to throw away or return the affected products listed. Questions about the recall should be called in to the Coca-Cola Company’s Consumer Interaction Center at 1-800-GET-COKE (800-438-2653).
