The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood NJ has been recognized with the 2023-2024 American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) Apex Recognition Award for its continued best practices and promotion of patient safety in respiratory care.

The AARC Apex Award is a recognition program for respiratory care departments in acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, home medical equipment (HME) companies, educational programs, and dedicated transport teams. Valley’s respiratory therapy team was one of only 29 recipients across the United States for this year’s recognition.

“Valley is once again proud to have been recognized with the Apex Recognition Award,” said Audrey Meyers, President and CEO of Valley Health System. “The Apex Recognition Award reflects the high-quality care our respiratory therapists and team members provide, and all of us at Valley are extremely honored to be a part of the small, elite group of organizations that receive this award.”

The AARC Apex Recognition Award was developed to recognize departments that demonstrate high-quality respiratory care. The award includes three categories for recognition: acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home medical equipment companies. The Apex program distinguishes facilities for their commitment to excellence in professional development, evidence-based care, patient safety, and quality improvement.

The Valley Hospital is also proud to announce that it has been recognized by Healthgrades as a 2023 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ recipient. This distinction places Valley among the top 10 percent of all short-term acute care hospitals as evaluated by Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting patients and providers.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the top hospitals in the country for patient safety,” said Audrey Meyers, President and CEO, Valley Health System. “Valley makes patient safety a top priority, and our staff and doctors work diligently to continue improving upon quality and patient safety protocols.”

Valley joins an elite group of 445 hospitals across the country that have earned the Patient Safety Excellence Award. Locally, Valley is one of 12 hospitals in New Jersey (and just one of two hospitals in Bergen County) to be recognized with this award.

“Through our 2023 Patient Safety Excellence Awards, we seek to recognize hospitals that excel in providing top-quality care for their patients while preventing serious injuries during hospital stays,” said Dr. Brad Bowman, Chief Medical Officer and head of Data Science, Healthgrades. “We are proud to name The Valley Hospital as a 2023 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient and look forward to their continued efforts to make patient safety a top priority.”

Earlier this year, The Valley Hospital was also named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for 2023 by Healthgrades.
