The Arc of Somerset County’s Camp Jotoni is preparing to celebrate 40 years of service as a special needs camp to both children and adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The celebration will be noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28 at the campground, 51 Old Stirling Road.
The free community event will include family activities for all, including a bounce house, face-painting, music and a barbecue lunch. Cost to eat is $5 per person. All other activities at the campground are free.
“Camp Jotoni has had a long history of camp families and camp counselors who hold camp in a special place in their heart,” said Lauren Frary, executive director for The Arc of Somerset County. “This 40th anniversary celebration is to recognize the hard work of four decades of staff counselors and supporters who over the years helped Camp Jotoni grow and be a place for recreation and socialization for the campers we serve.
“In addition Camp Jotoni is a place where families can leave their child for a week or two of respite from their often 24-hour-a-day care-taking responsibilities of their special needs child.”
A fundraiser will be held during the Aug. 28 event to help secure money for the ongoing Camp Jotoni Capital Campaign with an offering of tricky tray gifts, which will be available to the public for pre-sale at $25 per sheet of 25.
There also will be a special raffle with three major gift items: Golf at Baltusrol Golf Club; home of the 2016 PGA Championship, including golf, cocktails and lunch; gentleman’s golf at Hamilton Farms that include caddies; and a one-week stay at a four-bedroom Cape Cod vacation home during the 2016 calendar year.
These special raffle tickets are also being sold in advance at three for $60 or one for $25.
For information on purchasing tricky tray tickets, contact The Arc Foundation of Somerset County development office at (908) 658-3805. Visit their Web site for a full list of the tricky tray items presented.
