Breast Cancer Awareness 2014: Think Before You "Pink"

Source: Breast Cancer Action.org
The truth about breast cancer is never an easy story to tell because there is nothing comforting, secure, soft or reassuring about it. The reality is doctor’s visits, radiation appointments, chemo infusions and their aftermath. And there’s always the uncertainty of recurrence.
So here are some breast cancer organizations that do not engage in “pinkwashing:” Claiming to care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time producing, manufacturing or marketing products or misinformation that are linked to the disease. Help them continue to help others with their communication of accurate information and practical support for the sake of both research and patient care.

Breast Cancer.org

Breast Cancer.org is dedicated to providing the most reliable, complete, and up-to-date information about breast cancer and breast health as well as an active and supportive online community, complete with forums, chat rooms, and podcasts. And in the Day To Day Matters section, patients can find help with coping with “staying organized, paying for treatment, maintaining a job, making lifestyle changes, and managing symptoms and side effects.” Please click here to donate.

MetaVivor.org

MetaVivor works to specifically raise awareness about the truths of metastatic (stage 4) breast cancer and the inequities in funding for this form of the disease.
If you know someone who has died from breast cancer, they died from metastatic breast cancer. Most people don’t know that, and even fewer people understand that. Despite that fact, only 2% of money for breast cancer research is dedicated toward understanding metastatic breast cancer, or finding solutions to significantly extend the lives of those living with the disease. We need your help to shift the public discussion and prompt action about and for our disease. Please click here to donate.

Want to help address…the breast cancer epidemic but don’t want to contribute to (the) breast cancer awareness “industry?”  Breast Cancer Action  is the watchdog for the breast cancer movement.  We will not take any money from any company that profits from or contributes to cancer. A full 74.2% of every dollar is spent directly on programs.
Many mainstream breast cancer organizations won’t talk about the disease’s hard realities even though the women they serve live with them every day. We will not end the breast cancer epidemic unless we confront this disease in its entirety — hard truth and all. Please click here to donate.
